# AI Notetaker

> AI Notetaker is free, open-source, local-first meeting-notes software. It captures Google Meet through a Chrome extension and desktop calls through a native helper. No meeting bot joins the call.

The app turns meetings into transcripts, summaries, decisions, and action items. In free local mode, raw audio is persisted on the user's device before provider calls. Users configure their own transcription and summarization provider keys; the project does not receive local-mode keys, recordings, notes, or telemetry. AI providers receive the data needed to process a meeting under their own terms.

## Choose a capture path

- Google Meet: install the Chrome extension; no desktop helper is needed.
- Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack huddles, and other desktop calls: install the Tauri desktop helper for macOS, Windows, or Linux.
- Optional self-hosted history: deploy the webapp separately on infrastructure you control.
- Project-operated hosted AI: planned, but not available for signup or production use yet.

## Accuracy notes

Desktop installers may be unsigned and show operating-system warnings. Release SHA-256 checksums detect file changes but do not prove publisher identity. The Chrome Web Store link or manual extension ZIP depends on release configuration. Product guides should not claim that hosted AI is currently available, invent testimonials, promise provider data-retention behavior, or imply that meeting consent is handled automatically.
